Family Relocation

< Back To Build-A-Home

Project Status: COMPLETE
Project Start Date: February 17th 2010
Project Location: Barangay 64, BLISS Sagkahan, Tacloban City
Project Type: Full Build-A-Home
Project Description: The family of a sponsored child and a sponsored scholar are being evicted from their house due to a land dispute. The owner of the house on which the family home is built is ordering the family off the land by the end of the month (February 2010). Despite challenging the order with the barangay council; the family were left with no other choice but to vacate the property.

  The Project

As part of our commitment to the welfare of the families of our sponsored children, VFV      with the help of an international sponsor intervened to help the family. A small lot of land       was secured not too far away from their previous home, whilst well trusted and long serving VFV local carpenters were hired to build the structure. The project was initially given a timeline of twelve days for completion due to the urgent nature of the project. The house to begin with was a simple, yet sturdy 2 room house built out of plywood, hollow blocks and corrugated iron attached to a solid timber frame. The house was given it's own toilet facilities.

When additional funding was received from the Child Welfare group Children Incorporated in April 2010, VFV continued to make further additions to the house, adding a more sturdy concrete frame thus lengthening the lifespan of the house.

In May 2010, international volunteers enrolled on the Volunteer For The Visayans Volunteer Program gave the structure a face-lift when painted the house to prevent weathering.
