Volunteer Projects
Shaping future generations with VFV’s daily Playtime Sessions.
Background
Play occupies a vital role in a child’s development. Balance and coordination: through running and kicking balls. Language: through reciting, rhyming words and singing nursery songs. Intellect: through problem solving games and puzzles. Social skills and self-control: through sharing and taking turns to play.
Moreover, play helps children learn how to do things, express their feelings and gain confidence…
Playtime session has been created for children aged 3 – 5 years old from low income families, it is designed as a play and learn session. Lessons will be introduced through games, songs and film showing. Lessons covered are basic reading and counting, identification, culture and arts and values orietnations.
Sessions are supervised by VFV staff and some local mothers, in addition international volunteers have also opted to participate in the project during recent years.
VFV’s playtime sessions have recently been recognized by local schools as assisting young children to develop the appropriate social skills needed for transition into Elementary School.
Purpose of Playtime
The best way to mold good values in people is when their minds are still free from the corruption and harshness of their environment, when their young. The purpose of the Playtime sessions are as follows:
1. To provide a venue for learning appreciation.
2. To bring back the Filipino values that were once cherished by our fore-parents and visitors.
3. To develop skills to participate at an early age.
4. To establish a sense of camaraderie among parents of the children that will hopefully motivate them to participate in community activities.
How You Can Help Playtime
We’re always looking to extend our inventory of books, pens, crayons and pencils so that we have the resources to provide valuable activities to the children.
