The Philippines like any developing country suffers from all diseases due to poor hygiene and sanitation brought about by poor awareness programs. This is one of the issues that our country needs to face and come up with solutions or atleast preventions. Letting the people be aware that there is hope is a great venture but there is no other way but to start in ones own self and surroudings.
Since its foundation, Volunteer for the Visayans has reached out to those in need of help and with the primary goal of making a difference by giving service to local communities. With the support we receive from our volunteers both foreign and local the organization is able to give medical relief clinics known as medical missions to surrounding rural towns of Tacloban City.
In recent years, we have worked closely with our volunteers (including a large group from the University of Western Ontario), local doctors and nurses, local governments and sponsors to provide free medical services over the course of one day which has managed to serve on average over two hundred individuals! These missions have been met with great success and gratitude from local communities.
However, our work and success is highly dependent on the genorous and kind-hearted donations from sponsors and independent donors and we are forhwith seeking out such sponsors for our mission in 2010.
We here at VFV are currently in the planning stages of our Medical Mission for 2010, which we are hoping to stage in the last week of 2010. For another consecutive year, we will be working closely with volunteers from the University of Western Ontario (UWO) and local doctors and nurses to provide free medical services in a municipaliy to be confirmed soon.
