Volunteer for the Visayans (VFV) is very proud to announce the appointment of Marvin Malquisto as the new Director of VFV. Marvin Malquisto brings with him a commitment to further the existing mission of VFV while increasing the scope of our programs. Marvin is not new to VFV. He has designed and managed the construction of the playground at Bliss, two of the houses in Santa Fe, the build a home project in Bliss, the construction projects at Tacloban and Talipapa. In addition to these impressive accomplishments Marvin has participated in the establishment of the media center at Tanauan and has acted as a big brother (kuya) for a sponsored child since the program's inception. His background as an engineer equips him with a project oriented perspective of management and a practical approach to challenges. He is thorough, hard working, organized, and dedicated to the people in our community. VFV has gone from three volunteers 14 years ago to the largest organization of its kind in Leyte today. With nearly 75 sponsored children, several school sponsorships, several medical relief clinics each year, a community center, over 200 international volunteers each year, several build a home projects and countless other local support projects VFV is growing exponentially. The growth and the accompanying challenges VFV will face in the coming years requires a talent like Marvin. We are so happy to welcome you Marvin. Thanks and Good luck! Sincerely, Jason Coppage and Troy Peden VFV Turns Two!
We are pleased to announce that the Volunteer for the Visayans will be celebrating its 2nd anniversary in the last week of July! As we look back, we can say that VFV organization has grown tremendously and this is proven by the number of projects we have undertaken, the ever increasing number of local and international volunteers who participate in our programs and the families and communities we have helped.

Sharing Special Time with the Sponsored Kids' Family
Just last May of this year, VFV, together with two different group of volunteers -- the Jacksonville University group and the University of Western Ontario group -- shared their time with the sponsored kids and their families. A meal with the sponsored kids and their families is one of the activities that the program offers.
Another School Year for the Sponsored Kids
June 2006 opens another school year here in the Philippines. This is the time and the chance for the kids to learn more and grow more, with the help of the very-dedicated educators. With the opening of classes, the VFV provided the kids with their school needs and as well as with their school fees, as part of the program.
Judgment Day
As an international visitor, I've been fortunate enough to attend several cultural events and locations in the Philippines. One of the most memorable moments of my visit occurred June 27, when two other VFV volunteers and I acted as judges for the Miss Pintados 2006 pageant at the Tacloban Convention Center.
