It was an exciting day for the children in a village school when Ms. Ophelia Lovibond culminated her volunteering activity with a simple yet unique play of Cinderella. Ophelia, 19 years old, was a volunteer from Wale Vale, London. She initially came to the Philippines to volunteer at the Social Welfare Office on June 25, 2005.

Volunteers for the Visayans had two medical missions already. This project is entailed to help the underprivileged. We provide them free consultations from different doctors like Pediatrician, Family Medicine, OB-gyne, Dentist, Surgery, Medicine and gave out free medicines also.

Dear Volunteers/Supporters/Friends,

This has been an incredible year for Volunteer for the Visayans (VFV) Non-profit organization! We inaugurated our community center, hosted medical relief clinics, built our first home, constructed a playground, expanded our child sponsorship program, and added dozens of new projects. New Community Center Opened with Great Ceremony

The week-long celebration was full of various activities which was then participated in by some local and foreign volunteers, as well as, the local government officials together.

Garbage Dumpsite Children

It started with a visit to the Compost Production Area which was located within the perimeters of the city dump site. Standing in front of the makeshift building of the production site, I could see some people going to and fro carrying bulky sacks atop their heads to which I found out contained recyclable materials.

Eco-Park in Santa Fe

The Volunteer for the Visayans will be undertaking an ambitious project utilizing hectares of lot situated in Brgy. Hinapolon, few kilometers ahead from town proper of Sta Fe. Together with the sponsoring organization, local government officials and environmentalist will tie up in sharing their knowledge to local and foreign volunteers of propagating additional income of land used.

Adopt a School

The island of Leyte is the largest Visayan Island in the Philippines. Education is an important part of Filipino culture, but unfortunately, most schools do not have the funds to provide their students and teachers with basic school supplies, such as pencils, paper, books, or chalk. In most rural schools, the school is a one room building, with one teacher and several grades are taught together in the one classroom.

Child Sponsorship Update

VFV's Child Sponsorship Program is a proof and inspiration of how such benevolent endeavors can evidently make an impact and touch the lives of not just the needy children but also all the people involved in this undertaking such as the sponsors, the volunteers, the kuyas and ates (big brothers/ sisters), the VFV staff, the local individuals helping out, the parents and families of the children, the people in the communities where these children reside, the teachers in the schools where they study, and other people who have known about the program.
