Child Sponsorship Program Reaches a Village in Palo

Jenette T. Fariola
Child Sponsorship Program Coordinator

The Child Sponsorship Program of the Volunteer for the Visayans has been serving Leyte for ten months now. Since February, 2005, more and more children were able to benefit from the program and the services it offers. The program has been receiving positive response from the sponsors, which resulted in more and more kind–hearted people answering to the needs of poverty–stricken children of Leyte.

At present, the Child Sponsorship Program has expanded its target areas to places outside the previous areas of coverage. Just recently, the program was introduced to a village in Palo. Six kids for the sponsorship program from this village were added to the list of sponsored kids in Leyte. These kids were sponsored by past volunteers as well as friends and acquaintances of existing sponsors. Experiencing and seeing the real situation of the kids made a big impact on some of our volunteers who have sponsored children.

With just a few dollars, they can already make a big difference to these children, making them become a better person who then starts to dream big and become more eager to do better in school. Sponsorship provides the child with daily vitamin and basic meals, school uniforms and supplies, academic tutoring, medical care, support for their families as well as many other local services.
