First fund raising activity organized by VFV

by Rochelle P. de leon

The first ever fund raising activity, “Fun Run and Ride”, organized by Volunteer for the Visayans with the help of the City Social Welfare Office (CSWDO) was held last December 15 and 18, 2005.The beneficiary of this run and ride for a cause was theHome for the Street Children. The activity was successful and it was able to raise around 10,000 pesos. The money was utilized to purchase bed sheets, mattress and pillows for the street center. Participants of the run persuaded to cross back and forth the San Juanico (2.2 km) bridge while the riders made their way around Palo despite of the “rain and shine” weather. The mechanics was simple; runners and bikers were given a pledge form and they had their friends and relatives pledge money in exchange for their run/ride. Several participants received awards during the event. Teisha and Chris, being the first male and female to cross the finish line, Sophie as the most poised runner and Inok, a member of the “Boy’s Club” as the youngest participant.
