by Rochelle P. de Leon

SDCC Children

Volunteer for the Visayans, with the help of Tanauan Mayor Roque Tiu, sponsored another Medical, Surgical and Dental Mission. This mission was held at the Tanauan Ampitheater last May 18, 2006. Local doctors and local volunteers as well as international volunteers addressed ailments from worms, and stomach problems to circumcisions, TB treatment, prenatal care, and pulling teeth.

A total of nine volunteer doctors and dentists and 81 local and foreign volunteers (Americans and Canadians) joined the Medical and Dental Mission. More than 300 medical patients, 60 surgical (circumcision) and 125 dental patients were attended to. The local Health personnel, headed by Dr. Arlene Santo, also extended their expertise to the numerous patients. The mission was well attended and I hope there will be more medical and dental missions to be held in our town, Mayor Tiu said. This is the third medical mission sponsored by Volunteer for the Visayans.
